Biographical / Historical
Conrad Protzman, Inc. was founded by its namesake, Conrad Protzman, in 1954. Conrad Protzman, Inc. custom built, manufactured, and, in some cases, installed architectural cabinet casework from a variety of natural solid woods, such as mahogany and cherry, for schools, banks, and other types of businesses. The company also custmer built and manufactured standardized store fixtures.
Conrad Protzman emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1925, at the age of 18. Fourteen years later he created Protzman Brothers, Inc., an architectural cabinet casework company. In 1953, he left the company due to disagreements with his partners, and sold his share of the company to them. He then founded Conrad Protzman, Inc., where he worked as president of the company until his death in 1958. His wife, Lorine took over as presidentand managed the company until 1984. She closed the company that year due to financial troubles.
In the company's most successful days, it was a large subcontractor that employed up to 55 skilled cabinetmakers and apprentices.
